Meet Shai Cohen, founder of Blend of Bites — Thailand-based cook with Moroccan roots, sharing approachable recipes with transparent standards.

Hi — I’m Shai Cohen, founder of Blend of Bites. I’m based in Thailand.

I focus on the recipe side of the site: approachable food, clear steps, and practical notes that help home cooks get the result they’re aiming for.

In short: I try to make recipes feel doable — even if you’re not an “all day in the kitchen” person.

What I do at Blend of Bites

Most days, my work looks like this:

  • create, curate, and edit recipes
  • improve older posts during our WordPress → Ghost migration (clarity, images, SEO fields)
  • keep things transparent: what’s tested vs. curated, and what’s stock vs. original photography

My cooking background

I grew up around food — family meals, holidays, and the kind of cooking where you learn by helping, tasting, and repeating.

Later, I cooked in the Israeli army, worked as a kitchen assistant in a hotel, and kept learning wherever I could (including hands-on cooking classes in Thailand).

Travel and food

After years in the corporate world, I quit and traveled. Food became a big part of how I explored new places — learning local flavors and watching how people cook at home.

Blend of Bites is where I combine those influences with practical home-cooking steps.

How recipes work here (honest standards)

Blend of Bites includes two kinds of recipe posts:

When a recipe is “tested”

If a recipe is labeled tested, it means I cooked it.

When possible, I also add my own notes (timing, substitutions, troubleshooting, and what to look for while cooking).

Curated and adapted recipes (older library)

Some older recipes were created by researching multiple reputable sources, comparing methods, and writing one clear recipe with my own notes.

These posts are published as inspiration while I work through testing and original photography over time. Not every older post has been updated yet — if you’re unsure about a specific recipe, email me and I’ll clarify (and I can prioritize it for an update).

Photos (original vs stock)

We’re moving toward more original photography.

When we use stock images, we label them clearly so readers know they’re for illustration.
